Carla Stent is the former COO of Virgin Management, who is now building an NED and Investor portfolio based on the financial, operational and transformational experience she has gained through an international career that has been with organisations including Lufthansa, Thomas Cook, Barclays and Virgin Management.
Carla talks openly and honestly to Heather Jackson about the choices both professional and personally that have led her to have a truly impressive career, and how she adapted her skills when the landscape changed in her sector due to the financial crisis.
At what she describes as a truly liberating part of her life, she has the ability through her investment portfolio to support her companies on building the cultures that will help them expand and grow, at the same time as having the resilience and persistence to take on the head-hunters as she positions herself for the NED roles that will benefit from her executive experience.
Carla Stent serves as a NED of Christian Aid (where she also serves on the Audit and Finance, Fundraising and Investment Committee) and of the Young Women’s Trust, where she is Deputy Chair. Carla serves as chairwoman of several start-up companies.
She spent over 20 years in senior, international executive positions in banking, branded private equity and retail industries for blue chip organisations such as Barclays Bank plc, Thomas Cook AG and the Virgin Group.
A qualified Chartered Accountant, she has had direct responsibility for finance,post-merger integration, strategy, business operations, brand development & business transformation. She has chaired Audit and Remuneration Committees.
Carla holds B Comm and Masters degrees in Accounting from the University of South Africa, where she was born and educated before permanently relocating to the UK in 1996.
